Le Poët Laval in Drôme Provençale :

On a steep site of the Jabron valley, this medieval triangular village is sitting majestically amongst a magnificent wooden green scenery. Its austere architecture is built within ancient ruins of an impressive castle, which at crusaders period, was a St John of Jerusalem's hostelery.

Mostly founded more than 800 years ago by the Knight's Hospitaliers, the fortified village used to provide refuge and lodging to pilgrims on their way to the Holy Land. The 12th-century castle, remodeled in the 13th and 15th century, was considerably ransacked and demolished during the revolution period. Nowadays only remains the keep and its simple slope-roof half intact. On top raised up a huge dovecoat, dated back to the 17th century and considered as one of Provence most beautiful.
